... give space to the other!
Another chapter consists of the monologue descriptions of an episode from the life of another person, which Ernst Hesse records on video: He gives his interviewees, who come from very different professions and countries, all the time they need. The camera is rolling, says Ernst Hesse, and he simply listens: preferably, of course, at the interviewee's home or workplace.
This creates an archive in a filmic setting. In any case, listening is an indispensable part of communication and ultimately also part of Ernst Hesse's work. Listening perhaps corresponds
to scanning the surfaces of the sculptures with the eyes.
Ernst Hesse is a sculptor, painter and works with photographic means. The art critic Thomas Hirsch has said about his work that “its multiformity only seems to indicate diversity. Rather,
it is a unity that comes from experiences that show that the world has been viewed with open eyes and respectfully.” From the 1980s, he accepted , often on invitation of the Goethe Institute, teaching assignments in Sarajevo, the Far East, the US and Africa to realize the spread and penetration of art in the social public field.
He has realized projects with students in urban space, a ferry, a station, a children's home, etc. He also collaborated with musicians, writers and dancers. All of this influences his own work.
The forms in which this is expressed testify to a dialogue with the foreign and one's own identity. As an artist he moves between cultures en documented this movement in the space and
gives his objects titles as “dialogue’, ‘correnspondecias’ , fossile fragments’, ‘space for friendship’ or ‘fragments of identity’. They indicate his central theme: the change, the relocation,
the renewal and the consideration of it.
Letzten Endes bleibt von diesem Tage das, was vom gestrigen blieb
und vom morgigen bleiben wird:
die unersättliche Lust und nicht zählbare Begierde,
immer derselbe und ein anderer zu sein.
Fernando Pessoa, das Buch der Unruhe
